All Stage 3 classes (including the Year 4 students in 4/5K) will be attending an excursion to Georges River Civic Centre in Hurstville on Tuesday 25th September. This visit complements our History study of the different levels of government and the responsibilities of local government. We will be meeting with Gail Connolly (General Manager, Georges River Council); Kevin Greene, the current Mayor of Georges River Council and Sandy Grekas (current Georges River Council Councillor) to discuss the council and each of their roles and responsibilities, as well as holding a mock council meeting.
As we are travelling by train to Hurstville and walking to the civic centre, each class teacher would like 2 parent helpers to attend with them. This is not an all-day commitment.
The approximate time commitment for a parent would be as follows:
Group 1 (4/5K and 5H) – departing Oatley PS at ~ 9:00 am and returning by 12 pm.
Group 2 (6H and 5/6A**) – departing Oatley PS at ~ 10:00 am and returning by 1 pm.
Group 3 (5W and 6P) – departing Oatley PS at ~ 12:00 pm and returning by 3 pm.
** Note – 6H and 5W have swapped timeslots – 6H is now going earlier in the day and 5W is attending the last session.
If you are available and interested in attending this excursion with your child’s class, you must check at the school office to confirm that you have completed the current Appendix 5 – Declaration for Volunteers documentation. This form requires you to show 100 points of identification at the school office and they can also provide you with a copy of this form. Please advise your child’s classroom teacher directly in writing by Tuesday 18th September. If more than two parent/carers apply to attend, the teachers will randomly select the parent/carers for their class. This selection will take place no later than Wednesday 19th September. Any questions regarding this excursion should be directed to your child’s teacher.
Thank you for your support.
