On Thursday 21st March 2019, people all around the world celebrate the lives and achievements of people with Down syndrome, creating a global voice, advocating for the rights, inclusion and wellbeing of people with Down syndrome. On this day, the Oatley PS Student Representative Council (SRC) is inviting all of our students to wear crazy socks and bring a gold coin donation to contribute toward an external fundraiser to raise awareness of Down syndrome. The idea behind the Lots of Socks global initiative is that all types, shapes, sizes of the same thing can be unique in their own way, and yet do the same thing. Children understand what socks are, how they look and what they are for, and children understand that no two socks are the same. Lots of Socks is a campaign to create a conversation about diversity, uniqueness, inclusion and acceptance. All students are required to wear closed-in shoes with their crazy socks. If your child has a Got Game lesson on Thursdays, they should still wear their sports uniform and sneakers.
Any questions about our ‘Lots of Socks’ fundraiser should be directed to Ms Hewitt, Mr Prenzel or Mrs Kennedy.
