To mark the school’s Centenary in 2017, an OPS mum and local artist, Ynja Bjornsson, helped create an artwork entitled “Thumbs up for our Anzacs”, which features the thumbprints of all students. We’re thrilled that the artwork will feature in an upcoming children’s book called “Remember”, due for publication at the end of October. The book tells the story from a child’s perspective as they step into the shoes of people at an Anzac Day march to find out why it is important to remember. The book is written by JE Miller, and the Sydney book launch will be held on Saturday, 2 November at Oatley RSL (more details to come), and students and parents are invited to attend. A special copy of the book will be presented to the Australian War Memorial on Remembrance Day and all proceeds from the sale of the book are being donated to RSL Welfare to help soldiers, past and present, and their families.
If you would like to see “Thumbs Up for our Anzacs”, one piece is proudly hanging in the school library, with an identical artwork gifted to Oatley RSL.
As soon as we have more information about the details of the book launch, we will share them with the school community.
