A reminder that the 2nd OPS Fundraising workshop will be held this Sunday 17th November at Oatley Park Adventure Playground. Please drop by and discuss how you feel we should raise funds and what key initiatives should be considered to continue to make the school great. I will be there between 3 and 4:30pm on Sunday for an informal chat with anyone who wants to drop in.
I was disappointed at the attendance to workshop 1. Thankyou to those that have already sent me thoughts on fundraising for the school, and to Alison for making time to attend workshop 1. Parent participation in our childrens school is critical to the success of the P&C, and for the school to be able to implement nice-to-have initiatives such as playground upgrades, subsidised programs such as Got-Game, and to allow Departmental funding to the school to be focused on the education needs of our kids.
The P&C contributes to many initiatives within the school that are not known except for those that attend P&C meetings or follow the minutes of the meetings. These include expenses like venue hire for athletics carnivals, farewell celebration for the year 6 students, and additional learning resources within the school. In the coming month the P&C will share more on the full range of initiatives it has funded over the past few years.
The truth is, which many school P&C’s are experiencing, is that without volunteers putting their hand up to play a small part, the school will either lose the ongoing benefits the P&C provides, or parents will be asked for a larger P&C donation to continue to be able to support these activities. This will significantly detract from the wonderful sense of community that exists at Oatley Public School. We are all busy, however I encourage everyone to get involved in whatever capacity possible to continue to make Oatley Public a great place for our kids (and it truly is rewarding). This could be one day a year assisting in the canteen or uniform shop, though to taking on a larger role such as coordinating a fundraising project or event. We have a great team that can guide you, so no previous experience is needed to take on a task.
Finally, I want to say a big thankyou to all of the dedicated volunteer teams that keep regular initiatives going at the school, including the Canteen, Uniform Shop, School Banking, Entertainment Books, Ice-block Fridays, Green Sparks, classroom readers, and running the general business of the P&C. My family certainly appreciate the difference you make!!
